Summary:

After being inexplicably targeted by an evil intent on harming her at any cost, seventeen-year-old Nikki finds herself under the watchful guardianship of three mysterious young men who call themselves halflings. Sworn to defend her, misfits Mace, Raven, and Vine battle to keep Nikki safe while hiding their deepest secret—and the wings that come with.

A growing attraction between Nikki and two of her protectors presents a whole other danger. While she risks a broken heart, Mace and Raven could lose everything, including their souls. As the mysteries behind the boys’ powers, as well as her role in a scientist’s dark plan, unfold, Nikki is faced with choices that will affect the future of an entire race of heavenly beings, as well as the precarious equilibrium of the earthly world.

My Thoughts on the Book:

I really enjoyed Halflings & it's quite good debut. It starts with action from the first page & through it all it's quite fast-paced. It was fast & easy read, with interesting storyline. There are lots of books with angels or half-angels, but what I liked a lot in this one is that the half-angels are called halflings. Fitting, right? So, Mace, Raven & Vine are 3 gorgeous halflings with mission to protect Nikki, although they don't know why. Overall, I liked Nikki (sometimes more, sometimes less - I think at times she was gullible) but a fun character that made me laugh more than once and with potential to become a kickass heroine. From the halflings, I think my favorite was definitely Vine, she was such a sweety & I definitely want to learn more about him. I liked both Mace & Raven, but didn't really form an attachment to them, although I guess I liked Mace more. I might have disliked Raven a little through out the book, but there's a scene between Mace & Raven near the end of the book which made me like him more or should I say to feel for him, and it was such a sweet & brotherly scene, even a little heart-breaking, and definitely susprising, because I didn't expect it. Now to the storyline, someone's after Nikki & she and the halflings are trying to found out who & why? I have a little idea about the why, but since this is the first book, there's a lot more to be found out. Good thing - no cliffhanger, but the story is far from over. Now for the villain - I wasn't surprised who the villain was & I'm almost positive who or what he or she is (won't tell if it's a he or a she - no spoilers). Now, the love triangle - I have to admit that I have a strong dislike for love triangles, but this time I wasn't annoyed with it, which was definitely a good thing & I wouldn't say it was such a big part of the book. I also enjoyed the writing style, except when the author described how someone looked - I had to roll my eyes almost every time, not on how hot or beautiful they looked, but the words used to describe them - but that was mostly in the first half of the book. In the end, Halflings is definitely entertaining YA novel with just the right dose of humor, action, mystery & suspense that will definitely leave you eager for more. I know I am & I'm looking forward to reading the sequel.
