Flamecaster
(Shattered Realms, #1)
by
Cinda Williams Chima

Publication date:
April 19th, 2016

Adrian sul’Han, known as Ash, is a trained healer with a powerful gift of magic — and a thirst for revenge. Ash is forced into hiding after a series of murders throws the queendom into chaos. Now Ash is closer than he’s ever been to killing the man responsible, the cruel king of Arden. As a healer, can Ash use his powers not to save a life but to take it?

Abandoned at birth, Jenna Bandelow was told that the mysterious magemark on the back of her neck would make her a target. But when the King’s Guard launches a relentless search for a girl with a mark like hers, Jenna assumes that it has more to do with her role as a saboteur than any birth-based curse. Though Jenna doesn’t know why she’s being hunted, she knows that she can’t get caught.

Eventually, Ash’s and Jenna’s paths will collide in Arden. Thrown together by chance and joined by their hatred of the king, they will come to rescue each other in ways they cannot yet imagine.

Set in the world of the acclaimed Seven Realms series a generation later, this is a thrilling story of dark magic, chilling threats, and two unforgettable characters walking a knife-sharp line between life and death.

I absolutely adore the Seven Realms series, probably my most fav YA epic fantasy series, and I was hoping for more books set in the other realms, so I'm really looking forward to it! Actually, I'm dying to read it!!! And I love that it's set years later, not with the same characters, though I love the connection one of the MC has with the MC's from the Seven Realms! Really exciting!

Ho-Ho-Ho Read-a-thon: Start + Goals + Update + Wrap Up!

The Ho-Ho-Ho Read-a-thon is hosted by Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer & Jennifer @ BookShelfery.

For this read-a-thon you must read holiday themed or winter setting reads.

It starts on November 12th @ 12:01 am & ends on November 17th @ 11:59 pm.

The Twitter hashtag is #HoHoHoRAT.

There'll be challenges & a twitter party, too.

For more detailed info & to join, go HERE & HERE!

My Goals:

~ to read 3 holiday themed reads (minimum)
~ to participate in minimum one challenge
~ to join the Twitter Party on Tuesday

As for what I'll read, I was going to post a list, but when I started counting all the holiday reads that I haven't read yet, I have so many and I stopped counting at 35, so I have over 35, and I'll pick what to read at random, but I'll update this post with my progress & list what I've read & reading, though I think I'll start with Christmas at Evergreen Inn by Donna Alward.

Books I read:

1. Christmas at Evergreen Inn by Donna Alward
2. The Duke and Miss Christmas by Amelia Grey
3. Falling for Christmas by Kate Hewitt
4. Operation White Christmas by Nicki Edwards
5. Kissed by You by Sophia Knightly

I'll update this post with my wrap up when the read-a-thon is over & list the mini challenges I participated in, as well as if I joined the Twitter Party, which it's something I plan to do.

Wrap Up:

For the read-a-thon, I read the following Christmas reads:

The only one I didn't like was Kissed by You, but the previous 4 were absolutely sweet, fun, cute, charming & romantic, so I loved them.

From the mini challenges, I participated in 3:

~ Puzzle Game
~ Favourite Holiday/Christmas Movie you loved as a Child
~ Name That Book

I also joined the Twitter Party on Tuesday, and it was fun, though it left me craving for fudge!

"What are you?" she repeated, her voice firmer this time.
The thing only made a snuffling sound in response and seemed to try to bury its snout beneath its front paws. Could it even understand her?

Book Beginnings on Fridays is a weekly meme hosted by Rose City Reader!

Every Friday share the first sentence (or so) of the book you are reading, along with your initial thoughts about the sentence, impressions of the book, or anything else the opener inspires.

"I have to go. I'm listed as next of kin."

As a book beginning goes, it's good, especially when it comes to this book. It definitely fits the story. Obviously, something has happened to a family member. But, what???...

WoW #179: Winter by Marissa Meyer + WWW #89!

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Winter
(The Lunar Chronicles #4)
by
Marissa Meyer

Publication date:
November 10th, 2015

Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend–the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?

No explanation necessary, right? Because if you've read the series, you want this book, too! I hadn't actually read Fairest yet, but I will before I jump into this one. I might even re-read the complete series, too!

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?
This weekly meme is hosted by Taking on a World of Words!

What am I currently reading?

I loved all the previous books in the Copper Ridge series, so I just started this new novella, and of course I like it so far.

What did I recently finish reading?

I thoroughly enjoyed this prequel novella & beginning of Theresa Romain's new historical series!

What do I think I'll read next?

My next read will probably be Fey. Another shorter read & another review book, but I really enjoyed the couple works by the author that I've read so far, so I'm looking forward to see her first step into the fantasy genre.

What about you?

What are you waiting &/0r reading this week?
