"Up From the Grave" by Jeaniene Frost

Title: Up From the Grave

Author: Jeaniene Frost

Series: Night Huntress, #7

My rating: 4.5 of 5

(Book read on July 4th-5th, 2014.)

Summary:

There’s always one more grave to dig.

Lately, life has been unnaturally calm for vampires Cat Crawfield and her husband Bones. They should have known better than to relax their guard, because a shocking revelation sends them back into action to stop an all-out war…

A rogue CIA agent is involved in horrifying secret activities that threaten to raise tensions between humans and the undead to dangerous heights. Now Cat and Bones are in a race against time to save their friends from a fate worse than death…because the more secrets they unravel, the deadlier the consequences. And if they fail, their lives — and those of everyone they hold dear — will be hovering on the edge of the grave.

My Thoughts on the Book:

Up From the Grave is the final Night Huntress book. As the finale of one of my favorite series with some of my favorite characters, Up From the Grave was both everything I wished for, and what I didn't. I was a little bit reluctant about reading it, because the last full-length novel was so disappointing, just wasn't good, and the quality started to decline with the book before that, and despite loving the novella Home for the Holidays, I was still reluctant, and I was right to be.

At first, I absolutely loved the book. The first two 3rds of the book were amazing, and reminded me of everything I loved in the series, and why I got addicted to it. I loved the action & the kicking ass, and the awesomeness of it all, and I loved being reminded how much exactly Cat & Bones love each other. I won't go into details, but it was amazing, and I started wondering why I've been reluctant about picking up this book.

But, then, something else happened, something that started to decline my enjoyment of this book, that almost destroyed the series & the finale for me (though I'm trying to forget about it). SPOILERS ahead. That thing was Katie. I didn't mind her existence at first. I actually thought she's Cat's clone, but when it was revealed she was her daughter, I didn't like it. But, when it was revealed who probably her father is, yeah, I started to get pissed. Also, that whole storyline was so boring. First, Cat & Bones (with the help of Denise) kick some serious butt, and then they're pretty much useless, and they need lots of help. It kinda sucked, especially compared with the previous events in the book. I know how & why happened, but it still sucked & didn't make any sense to me. All I'm going to say is - they were lucky to have Denise & Ian on their side, as well as a few of the others. Oh, yeah, and I still really don't like Tate.

Now, to forget about the bad things, and talk about the things I loved. My most favorite thing being - Ian! I adore Ian! Even though I want more of him, and I'm wishing for a book or series of his own, at the same time, I don't want him to change - like EVER! I adore him just like he is. (I keep picturing Ian & William from Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series - they could be best friends, and I adore them both, with all of their faults). Back to this book, I didn't mind seeing all the old favs - I still really liked them as characters, and I had lots of fun with the story they delivered. It was a little bit on the unbelieving side, even for a supernatural story, but overall, it was really good. And I'm always going to love Cat & Bones, but it was time for their story to end.

Despite the mixed feelings for the last part of this book (I'm trying to ignore it), Up From the Grave was a great finale to the series, that every fan of the series should read, and I highly recommend it.

"Destined for an Early Grave" by Jeaniene Frost

Title: Destined for an Early Grave

Author: Jeaniene Frost

Series: Night Huntress, #4

My rating: 5 of 5

(Book read on October 9th-10th, 2013.)

Summary:

Her deadly dreams leave her in grave danger.

Since half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead lover Bones met six years ago, they've fought against the rogue undead, battled a vengeful Master vampire, and pledged their devotion with a blood bond. Now it's time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She's having visions of a vampire named Gregor who's more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn't know about.

Gregor believes Cat is his and he won't stop until he has her. As the battle begins between the vamp who haunts her nightmares and the one who holds her heart, only Cat can break Gregor's hold over her. She'll need all the power she can summon in order to bring down the baddest bloodsucker she's ever faced . . . even if getting that power will result in an early grave.

My Thoughts on the Book:

Destined for an Early Grave is the most amazing book so far in the series, and the most heartbreaking, and I absolutely loved it.

I'm actually glad that the author decided to take the story where she did, it was different & necessary, and I can't wait to see what she'd came up with next for my fav characters.

Gregor is one egotistical jerk, and I loved to hate him, and I was so sad about Cat (thank God for Mencheres), my heart was breaking for her & what she has been through. Also, my heart was breaking for Bones so much, as well as for both Cat & Bones, and about the one they lost in this book :(

But, Spade was absolutely amazing in this book, and Vlad was amazing, too, (I'm dying to start his series), and of course Cat & Bones were amazing as always (Cat became even more bad-ass than ever before), and I loved the ending & just about everything. As always, I don't want to spoil the story, you'll just have to read it for yourself, but it was perfect in any way!

Jeaniene Frost doesn't stop to surprise me with every new story she comes up with, making me fall in love with all the characters & the world even more, and making me addicted to the series, so I know I'll never get enough of her books, so if you still haven't tried her books, you definitely must, because you don't know what you're missing!

My Thoughts on the Book:

Before I finally read this 3rd book in the Night Huntress series, I absolutely loved Cat & Bones as a couple, they're actually one of my fav couples, probably my most favorite. But, this book was the turning point when almost all the secondary characters in the series got a special place in my heart. I mean, sure, I already really liked some of them, but this was the book when I realised how much I love almost all of them, and I know I'll never get enough of them, so I'm really glad for all the spin-offs featuring these characters, I can't wait to read them.

At Grave's End had pretty much everything - mystery, lots of kick-ass action, romance, heartbreak, a few surprises, and a lot of info about the vampire world, and I loved learning more about it, so I'm definitely going to continue with the series.

I don't want to go into too many details, but as I said, I loved almost all the characters: Cat, Bones, Spade, Mencheres, Ian, Vlad, Denise, Rodney, even Cat's mom, and all the others, I can go on & on. The only one I really, really disliked (and still do) and that pretty much irritated me quite a lot through the whole book was Tate.

The storyline was really interesting, so it was a great sequel to this amazing series, with an amazing, yet heartbreaking ending, and I'm looking forward to reading more of this world.

So, if maybe you still haven't tried the Night Huntress series, what are you waiting for? I can't recommend these books enough!

#126 - "Halfway to the Grave" by Jeaniene Frost

Author: Jeaniene Frost

Series: Night Huntress, Book 1

Book read from September 21st to October 8th, 2011!

My rating: 5 of 5

Summary:

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner—are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

 My thoughts on the book:
I've heard so many great things about the series, especially about Cat & Bones & now I know why that's the case. I have to admit that although I read this book in two sittings, they were quite apart. I got wrapped up in the story from the beginning & I read half of the book in one sitting. I loved it, but had to put it aside, but after that I was reluctant to return to it. I remember thinking "It can't get better than this.", so I postponed finishing it. And, wow, I was just so wrong. It can get better. I don't know what I was thinking. When I returned to it, I couldn't put it down & finished it. It has everything, great storyline, lovable & well developed characters, humour, hot romance, lost of action & of course kick-ass heroine. I mean really. I don't think I'll forget the fighting scene in the end. Athough this is only the first book, I have to say that Cat & Bones are definitely my favourite couple & I can't wait to read the sequel. I think I'm in love with them both ;) I highly recommend this book if you're like me & you still haven't tried the series. What are you waiting for?
