This time I decided to list my most favorite movies when I was just a little girl, and that I still adore even as an adult. I know I might miss a few, and can't list all of them, but just the most fav. Not all of these are quite movies for little children, and a lot of them are older then me, but I think that they definitely contributed to my eclectic taste in everything fictional! Also, no animated movies, because if I start with them, where will I stop? It will be hard enough with movies.

 

 

 

So, My Top Ten+ Most Favorite Movies While Growing Up (in no particular order) are:

 

#1 - WarGames (1983) - IMDb

It's still one of my favorite movies. It might not be perfect, but I love it, and I've watched it so many times, and I know I'll never get bored with it.

 

#2 - Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) - IMDb

This movie is one of the best ones ever! If you haven't watched it, what are you waiting for?

#3 - Star Wars Ep. IV, V & VI (1977, 1980 & 1983)

No explanation needed! It's still one of my favorite trilogies ever! And Harrison Ford was my first crush (before I even knew what exactly a crush is LOL).

#4 - Back to the Future trilogy (1985, 1989 & 1990)

No explanation necessary, right? 

 

#5 - Indiana Jones trilogy (1981, 1984 & 1989)

  

Another alltime fav that I'll never get bored with (and the reason why I love adventure so much). Of course, this only made me crush on Harrison Ford even more ;)

P.S. I'm pretending the last Indiana Jones movie doesn't exist.

#6 - While You Were Sleeping (1995) - IMDb

While You Were Sleeping is still one of my favorite romantic comedies!

#7 - Only You (1994) - IMDb

For me, Only You is still one of the most romantic movies ever. Also, probably the reason why I love Italy so much!

#8 - Clueless (1995) - IMDb

Clueless still rocks! I have to admit that at first I had no idea for maybe a couple of years that it's actually an adaptation of Jane Austen's Emma. After I watched for the first time one of the 1996 Emma movies, and after it watched again Clueless, I connected the dots ;) One of the best modern adaptations of a classic ever!

#9 - Jurassic Park (1993) - IMDb

  

I still love this movie, but only the first one! I will probably never get bored with it.

#10 - Jumanji (1995) - IMDb

And of course, Jumanji. One of the best children fantasy adventures ever!

 And an honorable mention that isn't a movie, but it was a fav, the TV series:

Are You Afraid of the Dark? is the thing I "blame" for me not being scared easily (or pretty much never) when it comes to horror movies, tv series or books. I've been known to laugh at horror movies quite often (the reason why I mostly stopped watching them long ago). From what I remember, it wasn't a particularly scary series, but it was entertaining & eerie enough & mysterious, and I loved it!

In 1838, lovely governess Elisabeth agrees to bear a child of anonymous English landowner, and he will in return pay her father's debt. At birth she, as agreed, gives up the child. So Elisabeth has to be her own daughter's governess, and she can't reveal the secret of her tie with little Louisa.

 

My thoughts on the book:

I enjoyed it a lot! Definitely lovely period drama!

Plot summary:

Amy "Little" Dorrit lives in the Marshalsea Prison for Debt caring for her father William Dorrit. To aid her family, Amy works for stern shut-in Mrs. Clennam. Son Arthur Clennam returns from China after his father's death, haunted by his father's final, mysterious words. Is there a long-buried family secret and does it somehow involve Amy and her family?

Settling back into English life, Arthur gets reacquainted with former sweetheart Flora Finching, although true affections are saved for Pet Meagles. Meanwhile, in Paris, sinister murderer Rigaud considers coming to England.

Having now befriended Amy and her family, Arthur makes a financial offering to help one member of the Dorrits. Amy's appreciation and affection for Arthur grows as John Chivery, a turnkey at the Marshalsea who has a longtime love for Amy, watches heartbroken.

To probe more deeply into the Dorrit mystery, Arthur enlists rent collector Mr. Pancks for help, leaving Arthur free to visit the Meagleses. While there, Arthur becomes troubled by Tattycoram (who lives with the Meagleses), and her mysterious connection to Miss Wade. 

My thoughts on the series:

I loved it! Haven't read the book, but when I got the series, I stayed home all day & watched all of it! I'll definitely watch it again!

Plot summary:

Alice, an unpretentious and individual 19-year-old, is betrothed to a dunce of an English nobleman. At her engagement party, she escapes the crowd to consider whether to go through with the marriage and falls down a hole in the garden after spotting an unusual rabbit. Arriving in a strange and surreal place called "Underland," she finds herself in a world that resembles the nightmares she had as a child, filled with talking animals, villainous queens and knights, and frumious bandersnatches. Alice realizes that she is there for a reason--to conquer the horrific Jabberwocky and restore the rightful queen to her throne.

 

My thoughts on the movie:

I'm a big fan of Tim Barton, Johnny Depp & Helena Bonham Carter, so I went to watch the movie when it was released & I enjoyed it a lot!

Plot summary:

Whenever Jack Worthing slips away to London from his Hertfordshire estate he says he is going to see his (fictitious) wayward brother Ernest. Once there he keeps his privacy by calling himself Ernest - luckily so as his beloved Gwendolen declares she could only love an Ernest. Her cousin Algy is the one person who knows Jack's secret and one day he travels down to the estate, announcing himself to Jack's attractive ward Cecily as bad brother Ernest. Cecily is much taken with him and with his name, so on Jack's return home and Gwendoen's unexpectedly arrival it becomes clear there are both too many and too few Ernests earnestly courting.

 

My thoughts on the movie:

I loved it! It's really hilarious & plus it's with both Rupert Everett & Colin Firth, of which I'm big fan!

My thoughts on the book:

I haven't read the book, but I didn't like the movie, which is surprising because it's Thomas Hardy's! I just didn't liked the story!

North and South is a four part adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's love story of Margaret Hale, a middle class southerner who is forced to move to the northern town of Milton.

 

My thoughts on the series:

This is my number one favorite period drama! I watch it at least 2 times every year & love it every time!

Plot summary:

Fresh-faced and innocent, Dorian Gray arrives in London to move into the house he has inherited. Almost immediately he falls under the influence of amoral and calculating Lord Henry Wotton, leading to a life of increasing debauchery and even violence. Through many years Gray stays as young-looking as ever, while a portrait painted when he arrived grows old, reflecting his increasing excesses. Eventually the picture, now secreted in his attic, becomes almost hideous to behold. When true love finally enters his life he realises he must guard his secret at all costs.

 

My thoughts on the movie:

It's been years since I've read the book, so I don't remember a lot about it, except the basic story, so I don't know how good of adaptation this is, but overall I liked the movie!

Plot summary:

Based on Terry Pratchett's 33rd Discworld novel involves a skillful con artist Moist Von Lipwig who finds the tables turned and it's he himself who conned into becoming the Ankh-Morpork Postmaster General. A position that has not been filled in years.

 

My thoughts on the movie:

I loved it! It was hilarious! I haven't read any of the Discworld books, although I've been planning to, but now I definitely will start them sooner! I recommend it!

Rochefort, the Cardinal's right-hand man, announces the official disbanding of the King's Musketeers. Three, however, refuse to throw down their swords - Athos the fighter and drinker, Porthos the pirate and lover, and Aramis the priest and poet. Arriving in Paris to join the Musketeers, D'Artagnan uncovers the Cardinal's plans, and the four set out on a mission to protect King and Country.

 

My thoughts on the movie:

When I was little, this was one of my favorite movies! Every time I catched it on tv, I watched it! So, I watched it again after many years & I enjoyed it just as much as I did then!

Plot summary:

The plot follows the story of Zona Zamfirova, a local rich man's daughter, and the vicissitudes of her affair with Mane, an ordinary goldsmith. As it was undesirable for the daughter of a rich man to marry a craftsman, the two are at first divided, with the possibility of Zona marrying the son of other rich people, Manulac. Everything is, however, changed as Mane organizes a successful conspiracy to keep Zona for himself.

 

My thoughts on the movie:

This is one of my favorite movies! It's really fun & humorous & I watch at least once every year!

Plot summary:

Mr. and Mrs. Bennet have five unmarried daughters, and Mrs. Bennet is especially eager to find suitable husbands for them. When the rich single gentlemen Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy come to live nearby, the Bennets have high hopes. But pride, prejudice, and misunderstandings all combine to complicate their relationships and to make happiness difficult.

My thoughts on the movie:

Although my favorite Pride and Prejudice version will always be the one from 1995 with Colin Firth & Jennifer Ehle, I really enjoyed this one! I really liked Laurence Olivier as Mr. Darcy!
