Book Beginnings on Friday #5

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Becky at Page Turners. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading. If you like, share with everyone why you do, or do not, like the sentence.

This week I'll share the first sentence from A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin, which I'm finishing now & the first sentence from the last book I've started & that's A Darkness Forged in Fire by Chris Evans!

"The Island of Gont, a single mountain that lifts its peak a mile above the storm-racked Northeast Sea, is a land famous for wizards."

A Wizard of Earthsea

"Mountains shouldn't scream, but this one did."

  4. The beginning of A Darkness Forged in Fire is an amazing first sentence. Will have to check that one out and add to the TBR pile.

  6. Le Guin is the Grande Dame of Oregon letters, but I have never read a book by her. Great first sentence!

  7. They both sound very unusual, nothing like what I would normally read so I will try and read the reviews

  8. "A Darkness Forged in Fire" looks like something I could get pulled into! I would love to hear from you how it's going so far! The reviewers seem to have liked it.

I'm building a piece with a character who is a blacksmith so it would be interesting to see how they handle an iron-working fire lover. :)
