Book Beginnings on Friday #4

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Becky at Page Turners. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading. If you like, share with everyone why you do, or do not, like the sentence. Join this meme HERE!

This week I'll share the first sentence from The Maze Runner by James Dashner, which so far I like it & the first 2 sentences from the awesome prologue of  The Desert Spear by Peter V. Brett, which I just started last night...

"It was the night before new moon, during the darkest hours when even that bare sliver had set. In a small patch of true darkness beneath the thick boughs of a cluster of trees, an evil essence seeped up from the Core."

"He began his new life standing up, surrounded by cold darkness and stale, dusty air."
