#111 - "The Gates" by John Connolly

Title: The Gates
Author: John Connolly
Series: Samuel Johnson vs. the Devil, Book 1

Book read from September 14th to September 16th, 2011.

My rating: 5 of 5

Summary:
THE GATES OF HELL ARE ABOUT TO OPEN. MIND THE GAP.
A strange novel for strange young people.
Young Samuel Johnson and his dachshund Boswell are trying to show initiative by trick-or-treating a full three days before Hallowe'en. Which is how they come to witness strange goings-on at 666 Crowley Avenue.
The Abernathys don't mean any harm by their flirtation with Satanism. But it just happens to coincide with a malfunction in the Large Hadron Collider that creates a gap in the universe. A gap in which there is a pair of enormous gates.
The gates to Hell. And there are some pretty terrifying beings just itching to get out ...
Can Samuel persuade anyone to take this seriously?
Can he harness the power of science to save the world as we know it?

 My thoughts on the book:
I've wanted to read this book for a long time now, but I kept postponing it. But, when I saw the galley of the sequel in the Simon & Schuster GalleyGrab email, I decided to finally read it. I loved it! I  was laughing out loud most of the time while I was reading it. It was just so funny, yet brilliant at the same time. This was the first book by John Connolly that I've read & I love his writing style, so I'm looking forward to reading more of his books! And all the additional informations by the author were just so humorous. And Samuel & Nurd are really sweet & lovable characters. One of my favourite books now. Great storyline & suitable for all ages, I highly recommend this book.
