Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon: Wrap Up!

The Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon was hosted by Michelle @ Castle Macabre!

Ok, so I'm ending this read-a-thon earlier, I think I over-read myself ;)

I read a lot, a total of 2421 pages, but I didn't do any of the mini challenges.
I guess after my reading slump just over a week ago (which I got over just in time for both Dewey's Read-a-Thon & this read-a-thon), I went crazy & I read every second of my free time this week ;) I brought a book everywhere ;)

So, I finished the 2 previous started books:

...Touched by an Alien by Gini Koch (read 88 pages - liked it a lot) & Hollyweird by Terri Clark (read 119 pages, also liked it a lot). I also read the following books:

...Tales of Terror from the Black Ship by Chris Priestley (259 pages - loved it) & Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake (316 pages - also loved it & the best read of the week & the read-a-thon)...

...Croak by Gina Damico (311 pages - liked it a lot) & Tales of Terror from the Tunnel's Mouth by Chris Priestley (277 pages - loved it)...

...Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror by Chris Priestley (243 pages - this was a re-read & once again I loved it) & Ripper by Amy Carol Reeves (340 pages - this one was the only one I didn't like)...

...Paint It Black by P. J. Parrish (355 pages - really good thriller)...

...and the last The Teacher's Tales of Terror by Chris Priestley (55 pages - liked it a lot) & Traction City by Philip Reeve (58 pages - also I liked a lot) and both of these were re-reads for me!

So, that's it!  I haven't reviewed anything, but hopefully I'll do that this week. How did you do?

One big THANK YOU to Michelle for hosting the read-a-thon!

Cover Characteristic: Angels!

The goal of this meme is to post your favorite 5 book covers with the week's characteristic.

This week's characterictic: Angels!

If you's like to participate in this meme, go HERE!

So, My Favorite 5 Angels Book Covers are:

 1) Angels of Darkness by Ilona Andrews, Nalini Singh, Meljean Brook & Sharon Shinn

I actually haven't read this anthology or anything from these authors & series (although I've been planning to), but when I saw this cover last year, I fell in love with it :) So pretty!

2) Angel's Flight by Nalini Singh

The same goes about this one - Love at First Sight :)

3) Wicked Nights by Gena Showalter

This one still isn't out, but I can't wait for it :) I'm a big fan of the Lords of the Underworld series (the books & the covers - I usually don't like the naked guys covers, but these are the exception) & I love this cover & I know I'll love this spin-off series, too ;)

4) Archangel's Consort by Nalini Singh

Another Nalini Singh ;) I really should check who's doing these covers & I should try the series, keep hearing it's great!

5) Fallen Legion by Laura Kreitzer

So, this one is the only new cover for me, I came across it on Goodreads last week, but I love it. Her clothes & the colours remind me of a gipsy, so she's like this really pretty gipsy angel!

Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon: Update #2!

The Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon is hosted by Michelle @ Castle Macabre!

I'm still doing great with this read-a-thon :)
Since my last update, I read:

...I loved Anna Dressed in Blood, and I also read:

...I really liked this one, it's actually a funny book, but still fits the read-a-thon, because it's about reapers...

...and the last book I just finished is the 3rd Tales of Terror book, and it made me want to jump right into Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror ;) which is the 1st Tales of Terror book, but it will be a re-read for me, 'cause I read it last year, so that's why I read books 2 & 3 first ;)

I also started this thriller & so far has been really good & I'll probably finish it this weekend (less than 150 pages to go).

So, yeah, I've been doing quite great, although I have to mention that none of these books is big, that's why I've read so much & I guess after my reading slump last week, my reading batteries are full ;)

I won't do more updates, just the wrap up post on Sunday or Monday, but I'm planning to read as much as I can until than & I'm planning to review some of these until then!

"Waiting On" Wednesday #71: Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake!

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Girl of Nightmares
(Anna, book 2)
by
Kendare Blake

Publication date:
August 7th, 2012

Summary:
It's been months since the ghost of Anna Korlov opened a door to Hell in her basement and disappeared into it, but ghost-hunter Cas Lowood can't move on.

His friends remind him that Anna sacrificed herself so that Cas could live - not walk around half dead. He knows they're right, but in Cas's eyes, no living girl he meets can compare to the dead girl he fell in love with.

Now he's seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he's asleep and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very wrong...these aren't just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.

Cas doesn't know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows she doesn't deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas more than once, and it's time for him to return the favor.

Weigh In Wednesday #1: Fiction Vs. Nonfiction!

Weigh In Wednesday is a new weekly meme hosted by Lauren @ Epilogue!

If you'd like to participate, visit this post HERE!

This week's theme: Fiction Vs. Nonfiction!

I prefer fiction, so I rarely read nonfiction.
Why? Because when I read I love getting wrapped up in the world &/or story the author has created, no matter the genre (I read everything that's fiction), so if or/& when I read nonfiction, the book doesn't capture my attention that much, although the reason for that might be that I'm not really interested in reading nonfiction ;) I usually give up on nonfiction books if I start them.
The only nonfiction book that have blowed me away was The Monster of Florence by Douglas Preston & Mario Spezi - although a real story, it felt like a really good thriller & the fact that it really happened, I still can't believe it, so I'd recommend that one, but for me it's fiction all the way!!!

Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon: Update #1!

The Spring into Horror Read-a-Thon is hosted by Michelle @ Castle Macabre!

So far, I'm doing great with this read-a-thon :)

I finished the two books I had previously started:

...and I also read my first horror book for the read-a-thon:

...and now I'm finally reading (and so far loving it):

Teaser Tuesdays #49!

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

"It was like a battleground. The white bones of the crew lay all around: skeletons picked clean of all flesh so that they looked as though they were the sleeping crew of some ghost ship."

Dusty Reads #8: Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill!

Dusty Reads is a weekly meme, hosted by Giselle @ Xpresso Reads, featuring a book that has been sitting unread on our home shelf for some time.

Books don't have to be 'x' years old. If you've had the book for a few months without reading it, it's dusty! ;)

Judas Coyne is a collector of the macabre: a cookbook for cannibals . . . a used hangman's noose . . . a snuff film. An aging death-metal rock god, his taste for the unnatural is as widely known to his legions of fans as the notorious excesses of his youth. But nothing he possesses is as unlikely or as dreadful as his latest discovery, an item for sale on the Internet, a thing so terribly strange, Jude can't help but reach for his wallet.

I will "sell" my stepfather's ghost to the highest bidder. . . .

For a thousand dollars, Jude will become the proud owner of a dead man's suit, said to be haunted by a restless spirit. He isn't afraid. He has spent a lifetime coping with ghosts—of an abusive father, of the lovers he callously abandoned, of the bandmates he betrayed. What's one more?

But what UPS delivers to his door in a black heart-shaped box is no imaginary or metaphorical ghost, no benign conversation piece. It's the real thing.

And suddenly the suit's previous owner is everywhere: behind the bedroom door . . . seated in Jude's restored vintage Mustang . . . standing outside his window . . . staring out from his widescreen TV. Waiting—with a gleaming razor blade on a chain dangling from one bony hand. . . .

A multiple-award winner for his short fiction, author Joe Hill immediately vaults into the top echelon of dark fantasists with a blood-chilling roller-coaster ride of a novel, a masterwork brimming with relentless thrills and acid terror.

Cover Characteristic: Blood!

Cover Characteristic is a meme hosted by Lu a.k.a The Muggle @ A Muggle's Magical Book Blog!

This week's characterictic: Blood!

If you's like to participate in this meme, go HERE!
Ok, so the first thing I thought about when I saw this week's theme was Dexter, but in the end I decided not to put any of those covers because I couldn't decide which to choose :)

So, My Favorite 5 Bloody Book Covers are:

1) The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

Yeah, I'm talking about this limited adult edition from Subterranean Press - I wish I owned it (I have the blue one which is also great) but this one is amazing & so perfect for the story, so one of my all-time favourite covers!
2) Hater by David Moody

I love covers with blood spatter & bloody writing :) I blame it on Dexter ;)
3) Anna Dressed in Blood & Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake
I absolutely love both of these covers, so I had to add them both as one ;) Nekro is an amazing artist!

4) Alien in the Family by Gini Koch

Maybe you won't notice the blood at first, but I absolutely love this cover because of it, (actually I love all the covers in the series - Daniel dos Santos is also one amazing artist) I think that the blood splatter on Kitty's dress is amazing detail & only adds to the bad-ass look of the cover!
5) Allison Hewitt is Trapped by Madeleine Roux

As you can see from my list, I'm not a fan of the bloody vampire covers, but I love covers with bloody writing :)
