#104 - "Blood Rights" by Kristen Painter (ARC)

Title: Blood Rights

Author: Kristen Painter

Series: House of Comarré, Book 1

Publisher: Hachette Book Group

Imprint: Orbit

Pages: 432

Publication date: October 1st, 2011

ISBN: 9780316084772

Read on September 8th-9th, 2011 from e-copy acquired from NetGalley!

My rating: 4.5 of 5

Summary:
Gothic fantasy meets vampire fiction in this debut novel from Kristen Painter - full of politics, intrigue, and blood.
Born into a life of secrets and service, Chrysabelle's body bears the telltale marks of a comarré -- a special race of humans bred to feed vampire nobility. When her patron is murdered, she becomes the prime suspect, which sends her running into the mortal world...and into the arms of Malkolm, an outcast vampire cursed to kill every being from whom he drinks.
Now, Chrysabelle and Malkolm must work together to stop a plot to merge the mortal and supernatural worlds.  If they fail, a chaos unlike anything anyone has ever seen will threaten to reign.

My thoughts on the book:
I have to admit that the first thing that caught my attention was the amazing cover, actually the beautiful covers of all 3 books. When I read what the book is about, although not big fan of vampires, sounded interesting & I added it on my wishlist, so when I saw it on NetGalley, I requested it right away & I couldn't wait to read it & when I started it, couldn't put it down! I loved the world Kristen Painter had created, it's quite interesting & I didn't have any problems understanding how their society works. There was lots of suspense & action & great chemistry between the main characters Chrysabelle & Mal and I liked them a lot as characters. There were lots of twists & turns through the story, and although they're not really predictable, most of them I predicted (except for few smaller ones), but one of the main things that will happen, although I knew I was right, I was still hoping maybe I'm wrong, 'cause I didn't want that for Mal & I kept thinking "Poor, Mal." Also, good thing is that although this book will leave you eager for the sequel, doesn't end on cliffhanger. That means, I can't wait to read the sequel & I'll probably buy this book, so I highly recommend it!

My September R.A.K.!

This was the first time that I participated in Book Soulmates' Random Act of Kindness & I received my first R.A.K. book.

The book I received was:

This book was sent to me by Carien a.k.a Sullivan McPig from Pearls Cast Before a McPig!

So, thank you so much for the book, Carien!

I still haven't read it, I got it just a few days ago & I haven't really been reading (or blogging) these days, (I blame it on Pottermore, because they finally sent my welcome email & all my free time I've spent playing), but I'm planning to read it in October :) Can't wait!

I didn't send any books this time, but I'm planning to share the love in October :) If you have a book on your list that I've absolutely loved & it's one of my favorites, you might just be one of the lucky ;) I love gifting my favourite books!

Also, I'd like to thank Vanessa & Isalys @ Book Soulmates for hosting R.A.K.!

And once more, thank you so much, Carien!!!

2011 Spooktacular October Paranormal Reading Challenge!

Marie Landry @ Ramblings of a Daydreamer is hosting interesting reading challenge in October, which I'll use to catch up on some of the books I keep postponing reading ;) Also, the amazing button grabbed by attention, too ;)

Anyway, she's hosting the 2011 Spooktacular October Paranormal Reading Challenge

The goal of this challenge is to read & review at least 3 paranormal books in October.

Although the challenge name is paranormal, Marie says that if it has any "otherworldly" element to it, even if they're fantasy or urban fantasy books, we can include them ;) That means any books with faeries, vampires, werewolves, shifters, mermaids, angels, demons, witches, sirens, banshees, etc.

So, sounds like lots of fun! I'll just list below the books as I read them!

Also, there will be a giveaway in the end!

Summary:

Plus there’s the little matter of Chess’s real job as a ghost hunter for the Church of Real Truth, investigating reports of a haunting at a school in the heart of Downside. The Infernals by John Connolly

My word: Hell

My image:

When I saw this picture, I started laughing because it fits the book so much. The Infernals is sequel of The Gates, which is actually about the Gates of Hell, so there you have it ;)
But even with all of that, I think I have to mention that these books aren't actually scary, they're hilarious & so much fun :)

Thanks Benji for hosting this fun challenge!!!

Top Ten Tuedsay: Books I Feel As Though Everyone Has Read But Me!

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists.
Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

My Top Ten Books I Feel As Though Everyone Has Read But Me:

When I saw this week theme, I decided not to include any of the classics, but only books that I've seen over and over around the blogosphere, but for one reason or another, I haven't read them!

1. This is one of the series which I plan to get & read at some point, but still haven't!
2. This one is also one of the books that seems like everyone have read & loved, so it's on my must-read list!
3. This one was one of the books that I really wanted to read before it was published, but when it was finally out, I just didn't buy it, I kept postponing it & I kinda lost the anticipation, but I definitely plan to get & read the series! Maybe I'll just wait for the final book & than read the series.

4. Yeah, Twilight! I have to add it on my list, 'cause apparently almost everyone have read the series or at least this book, but I didn't! I also can say most definitely that I won't ever read it.

5. I haven't read this one & I don't know if I will! I just have a feeling that I won't be too crazy about it & I've learned that when I have that feeling about a book that everyone loved, that feeling is right. I do want to read Forget You, though.

6. This one has been on my wishlist before it was published, because it sounded so good & apparently it is. From the Ten Top Tuesday a couple of weeks ago (about the 2012 sequels) it seemed that almost everyone have read it & can't wait for the sequel, so, yeah, this one is on my must-read list!

7. This one has been on my reading list for a long time, but still haven't gotten around to it, but I definitely will.

8. Both of these are on my tbr list & I'll probably get to them at some point!

9. I haven't decided if I'll read this one, but I think there is a possibility that I'll try it in the future!

10. I know that these are also really loved series & although I think that I might give it a try to Shiver, I still haven't decided about Nightshade.

Ok, so I ended up with more than 10, although I had a lot more. So, tell me what do you think? Have you read any of these books & should I read them or not?

What I'll be reading this week?

I'll finish this book today & so far I'm loving it! Only 50 more pages to go, I'm returning to it right after I write this post!
I only started this one last week, read a few chapters, and it got me interested, so I'll probably finish it after Ready Player One!
I'll also continue reading this one. Although I think I already know what will happen, I'm still looking forward to it & so far is fun.
I still haven't started this one, but I'll probably read it this week. This is the sequel of The Gates which I read last week & absolutely loved, so I'm looking forward to reading this one!

And he's trying to convince himself that working for the Feds is smart, even though he's been raised to believe the government is the enemy.
But with a mother on the lam, the girl he loves about to take her place in the Mob, and new secrets coming to light, the line between what's right and what's wrong becomes increasingly blurred. And when the Feds ask Cassel to do the one thing he said he would never do again, he needs to sort out what's a con and what's truth. In a dangerous game and with his life on the line, Cassel may have to make his biggest gamble yet - this time on love.
  4. Sacrificial Magic by Stacia Kane - This is the 4th book of the series. It should be out in March.

    Summary:
When Chess Putnam is ordered by an infamous crime boss—who also happens to be her drug dealer—to use her powers as a witch to solve a grisly murder involving dark magic, she knows she must rise to the challenge. Adding to the intensity: Chess’s boyfriend, Terrible, doesn’t trust her, and Lex, the son of a rival crime lord, is trying to reignite the sparks between him and Chess.
Plus there’s the little matter of Chess’s real job as a ghost hunter for the Church of Real Truth, investigating reports of a haunting at a school in the heart of Downside. Someone seems to be taking a crash course in summoning the dead—and if Chess doesn’t watch her back, she may soon be joining their ranks.
As Chess is drawn into a shadowy world of twisted secrets and dark violence, it soon becomes clear that she’s not going to emerge from its depths without making the ultimate sacrifice.
  5. The Blood by D. J. MacHale - This is the last book in the Morpheus Road trilogy that I absolutely love & I can't wait to see what will happen next! Book summary & cover still isn't available (even the title as far as I know still isn't confirmed, but I'm 99% sure that it will be The Blood).

Ok, all my picks are sequels, but what can I do with all these amazing series ;)
