Cruel Beauty

Publication date:
January 28th, 2014

Graceling meets Beauty and the Beast in this sweeping fantasy about one girl's journey to fulfill her destiny and the monster who gets in her way-by stealing her heart.

Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

With no choice but to fulfill her duty, Nyx resents her family for never trying to save her and hates herself for wanting to escape her fate. Still, on her seventeenth birthday, Nyx abandons everything she's ever known to marry the all-powerful, immortal Ignifex. Her plan? Seduce him, destroy his enchanted castle, and break the nine-hundred-year-old curse he put on her people.

But Ignifex is not at all what Nyx expected. The strangely charming lord beguiles her, and his castle-a shifting maze of magical rooms-enthralls her.

As Nyx searches for a way to free her homeland by uncovering Ignifex's secrets, she finds herself unwillingly drawn to him. Even if she could bring herself to love her sworn enemy, how can she refuse her duty to kill him? With time running out, Nyx must decide what is more important: the future of her kingdom, or the man she was never supposed to love.

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…
  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?
This weekly meme is being hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading!

What am I currently reading?

I absolutely love Daniel Mackenzie! He was such a sweety as a character in the previous books, so I already adored him & was really looking forward to his book, but now that he's all grown up now, he's even more amazing & so, so charming, so even though I've read only a 3rd of the book so far, I think I'm in love, and I don't want this book to end. This is a big deal when it comes to me, since I rarely crush on book characters, and even more rare is that I want to hug a character & never let him go.
I just started These Broken Stars, and although I'm only at the beginning, I already like it a lot, and I think that this will be a sweet book.

What did I recently finish reading?

After almost 2 years, I finally decided to return to the Lords of the Underworld series, and read Paris & Sienna's book The Darkest Seduction & it was absolutely amazing.
After that I jumped right into Wicked Nights - the first book in the spin-off series Angels of the Dark, and although it was on the predictable side, so it wasn't as amazing as The Darkest Seduction, it was a great read & I loved the book, and I'm already hooked on the series.
I also finished The Storyteller, a book that even though it was contemporary mystery, it was magical, and totally heartbreaking, and one of those rare books that will stay with me for a long time. Review to come soon.
And I also finally finished re-reading City of Bones. It took me a month, but I made it, and even though I didn't like it, I am decided to read at least books 2 & 3, hopefully some time in 2014.

What do I think I'll read next?

I want to start & read all of these right now, but I'll try to go one book at a time, which for me is almost impossible.
I need to start Vicious for this month's read-along, and I also want to read the 2nd Angels of the Dark book Beauty Awakened, the 2nd White Rabbit Chronicles book Through the Zombie Glass & the 2nd Finishing School book Curtsies & Conspiracies. I'm a big fan of both Gena Showalter & Gail Carriger, and I loved all the 1st books in all 3 series (I rated them all 4.5 of 5).
I'd also like to finally read Sandy Williams's The Shadow Reader & to re-read Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder, before I continue the rest of the Healer series.

How about you?

What are you waiting &/0r reading this week?

  14. I know what you mean. For me, City of Bones wasn't good or bad, yet at the same time I wouldn't say it was ok read, and to be honest, I don't expect books 2 & 3 to be better, but since I already have them, I will read them at some point, although I will probably give up after that.

    Thanks for stopping back :)

    1. I hope you will like it. I had trouble liking the characters & the writing style. And yeah, I watched the movie & the movie was the reason I actually decided to re-read the book, and as a movie was ok, and I guess as an adaptation was ok, too, but nothing special.

      Thanks for stopping by!
