WWW Wednesdays #60!

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions…

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?
This weekly meme is being hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading!

What are you currently reading?

I'm reading The Impossible Cube by Steven Harper and so far I love it & I also started today Breaking Lauren by Jordan Deen and I can't seem to stop reading it. I'm already halfway through it & I'll probably finish it today!

What did you recently finish reading?

You Belong to Me wasn't as good as the previous Karen Rose's books I've read, but I blame it on the bad translation.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Well, after finishing The Impossible Cube & Breaking Lauren, I'm planning to read If I Die and What I Didn't Say - I'm in a mood for YA contemporary. Alien Tango is still waiting for me on my shelf & of course All Summer Long, now that it's available on NetGalley. I really enjoyed Summer Days & Summer Nights (reviews to come), so I can't wait to read this one, too.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Best Books I've Read So Far This Year!

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists.
Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers here at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

So, this week's theme is actually Top Ten Authors I'd Like To See On A Reality Show, but we could choose a different theme, so I decided for Top Ten Best Books I've Read So Far This Year, not counting re-reads.

My Top Ten Best Books I've Read So Far This Year:

1) The Vanishing Game by Kate Kae Myers

Ok, this book blew me away, it was amazing. I actually read it from galley, but I'm planning to buy it, it was that good & deserves the #1 place of best books I've read so far this year!
2) Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake

Yeah, I finally bought & read Anna Dressed in Blood, and yeah, I loved it & it was amazing & I can't wait for Girl of Nightmares!
3) Divergent by Veronica Roth

I don't think I should say anything about Divergent, except I loved it & one of those rare books (like the one above) that really deserves the hype it got & I can't wait to get my copy of Insurgent!
4) The Doomsday Vault by Steven Harper

I loved The Doomsday Vault, probably the best steampunk book I've read so far & definitely one of the most entertaining books, and I highly recommend it. At the moment I'm reading the sequel The Impossible Cube, and so far it's been just as great, and there's a good possibility I might re-read both before the last book The Dragon Men is out later this year, and I never read the same books in a year, but with these I might make an exception ;)
5) Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire

Discount Armageddon is also one of the most entertaining books I've read, and I loved every second of it, so I highly recommend it, and I'm already looking forward to the next book next year, and until then I'll have to try Seanan McGuire's other books!
6) Eon by Alison Goodman

I loved Eon, great YA fantasy, and if I had the sequel Eona when I finished it, I would've jumped right into it, but I didn't have it, although now I do & it's waiting on my shelf to be read, and I will do that soon.
7) One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost

Yeah, I know, what I've been waiting for until now with the series, but now that I've started reading it, I'm planning to catch up, and this one was amazing, you gotta love Cat & Bones - best couple ever!!!
8) Firelight by Kristen Callihan

I read Firelight from galley, and I'm planning to buy it, too, 'cause I loved it, really great adult paranormal historical romance & in a way re-telling of the Beauty & the Beast, and although this story is finished, I can't wait for the next book in the Darkest London series!
9) A Witch in Winter by Ruth Warburton

Loved this one and everything about it: the writing style, the characters, the storyline, the romance, even the cover looks more amazing & prettier IRL & I'm looking forward to reading the sequel!

10) Chris Priestley's Tales of Terror series

Yeah, ok, I'm cheating a little, 'cause I said no re-reads, and Uncle Montague's Tales of Terror was actually a re-read, but the other 2 weren't, and I can't separate the books, I loved them all!

Dusty Reads #10: The Web of Titan & The Cassini Code by Dom Testa!

Dusty Reads is a weekly meme, hosted by Giselle @ Xpresso Reads, featuring a book that has been sitting unread on our home shelf for some time.

Books don't have to be 'x' years old. If you've had the book for a few months without reading it, it's dusty! ;)

Ok, so this time 2 books: books #2 & #3 from Dom Testa's Galahad series: The Web of Titan & The Cassini Code. This is YA sci-fi series & I enjoyed a lot the 1st book The Comet's Curse, (it was actually a book I've won from a fellow blogger). Last year I bought  The Web of Titan & The Cassini Code, but haven't gotten around to them, hopefully this year I will, 'cause I should catch up, 'cause there are already six books published...

After triumphing over a saboteur bent on destroying Galahad, Triana and her Council are eager to avoid any further complications. But as Galahad swings around the ringed planet Saturn, they encounter a mysterious metal pod orbiting the moon of Titan. The teens prepare to bring the pod and its contents aboard, only to be faced with a another crisis: an illness that is beyond their medical experience. Dozens of crew members fall into a comatose state, only to awaken with strangely glowing eyes. To make matters worse, the systems of Galahad begin to fail. With time running out, can Triana and her shipmates escape the Web of Titan?
The teenage crew of Galahad has survived their first encounter with an alien race. Though shaken by the power of The Cassini, Triana and her Council are determined to continue their mission. But some of the crew don’t agree. Led by the charismatic Merit Simms, a small group of crew members begins lobbying for a return to Earth—just as the ship enters the Kuiper Belt, the deadly minefield of asteroids that surrounds the solar system.
As Galahad dodges a storm of asteroids, Triana finds herself dealing with an increasingly hostile crew. Even some members of the Council are beginning to listen to Merit’s arguments. Can Triana find a way to prevent a mutiny aboard Galahad, and lead her crew to safety?

Teaser Tuesdays #51!

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.
Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

"Then she grabbed the front of Gavin's shirt and pulled him down for a long kiss...(a few sentences in between)..."That's for being alive when I came to get you," Alice said, then slapped him lightly on the cheek. "And that's for getting captured and scaring me half to death in the first place." "I love you, too" Gavin said. "Now, run!"
Just started this one today, and it's been filled with action from the 1st chapter & love it so far. At first I thought about choosing steampunkish teaser, but then I decided about this one, because it made me smile :)

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? #79

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is being hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

This is a great weekly event where everyone can keep track of the books finished last week & the books planning to read this week!

Wow, I haven't participated in this meme for quite a while...

What I've been reading last week?

I finished Singing the Dogstar Blues - really fun YA sci-fi book, I read Under the Boss's Mistletoe, We'll Always Have Paris, Just One Kiss & Ain't Misbehaving - yeah, I've been on a contemporary romance roll ;) and they were all quite good, and I finished My Soul to Steal, which was also good.

What I'll be reading this week?

I'm still reading Karen Rose's You Belong to Me, so I'll probably finish it this week, around 140 pages more to go & I'm planning to read If I Die by Rachel Vincent, I'll probably start it tomorrow, 'cause I can't wait for it!
EDIT: The postman just brought me The Impossible Cube by Steven Harper, yay, so I know I'll start it right away, 'cause I've been waiting for it :)

"My Soul to Steal" by Rachel Vincent

Title: My Soul to Steal

Series: Soul Screamers #4

Author: Rachel Vincent

(read from May 1st to May 13th, 2012)

My rating: 4 of 5

Summary:

Trying to work things out with Nash - her maybe boyfriend - is hard enough for Kaylee Cavanaugh. She can't just pretend nothing happened. But "complicated" doesn't even begin to describe their relationship when his ex-girlfriend transfers to their school, determined to take Nash back.

See, Sabine isn't just an ordinary girl. She's a mara, the living personification of a nightmare. She can read people's fears - and craft them into nightmares while her victims sleep. Feeding from human fear is how she survives.

And Sabine isn't above scaring Kaylee and the entire school to death to get whatever - and whoever - she wants.

My Thoughts on the Book:

Ok, so I'm a first-time reader of the series & I have to say that My Soul to Steal is my least favorite book in the series so far. I still liked it a lot & enjoyed it, but I read it in four sittings & I took a few days break between each one (read lots of other books) and I don't usually do that. Why? Because it was a little whiney, and yeah, I didn't really want to use this word, but couldn't think of another one, but not whiney & annoying, just a little whiney, with all that apologizing & fighting & jealousy, etc, and yeah, they were all necessary, but it made me not to fell in love in this book, but, even with that, I liked it a lot & I'm guessing it's actually a set up for If I Die, that's why the storyline is like it is.
The ending was great, I loved it, and of course now I can't wait to read If I Die, I'll definitely start it in 2 days ;) Everyone says it's the best, so I'm really excited! Kaylee was ok, I didn't love her as much as in the previous books, although I still like her a lot, so now my favorite character is Tod, I hope there will be a lot more of him in If I Die. Sabine was really interesting character & I think she's & will be a nice addition to the group. As always, I loved Emma, she's so much fun, I guessed about Alec quite early, and about everything else, so there were not surprises this time, except Harmony's solutions about how to protect themselves in the end ;)
I enjoyed the writing style, especially the dreams & the Netherworld scenes, they were so creepy & I loved them, Avari as always was one sick S.O.B., but he is a hellion, so no surprise there ;) Oh, and I think that Tod is right & Kaylee should take his advice, because sometimes when something is broken, can't be fixed, especially because Nash lost the feelings of their memories, so although he still loves her, I wonder if it would work?
Anyway, good sequel & I still highly recommend the Soul Screamers series if you haven't tried it because it's quite good!

What are you currently reading?

I'm almost done with My Soul to Steal by Rachel Vincent & I'm halfway through with You Belong to Me by Karen Rose

What did you recently finish reading?

I loved Singing the Dogstar Blues, it's really fun YA sci-fi book & I liked a lot Under the Boss's Mistletoe.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Probably these two, although I always might pick up something else. I got What I Didn't Say from NetGalley & it sounds like interesting YA contemporary, so I'm looking forward to reading it & Alien Tango is a book that I've been planning to read these last 2 weeks, but just haven't gotten around to it, but hopefully I will read it next ;)
