"Waiting On" Wednesday #68: "About That Night" & "The Duke's Perfect Wife"!

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

So, this week a couple of sequels from two of my favorite series: one historical romance - the 4th book in Jennifer Ashley's Highland Pleasures series (you gotta love those MacKenzie men) & the other contemporary romance - the 3rd book in Julie James' FBI / US Attorney series!

The Duke's Perfect Wife
(Highland Pleasures, book #4)
by
Jennifer Ashley

Publication date:
April 3rd, 2012

Summary:
Lady Eleanor Ramsay is the only one who knows the truth about Hart Mackenzie. Once his fiancee, she is the sole woman to whom he could ever pour out his heart.

Hart has it all - a dukedom, wealth, power, influence, whatever he desires. Every woman wants him - his seductive skills are legendary. But Hart has sacrificed much to keep his brothers safe, first from their brutal father, and then from the world. He's also suffered loss - his wife, his infant son, and the woman he loved with all his heart though he realized it too late.

Now, Eleanor has reappeared on Hart's doorstep, with scandalous nude photographs of Hart taken long ago. Intrigued by the challenge in her blue eyes - and aroused by her charming, no-nonsense determination - Hart wonders if his young love has come to ruin him . . . or save him.

About That Night
(FBI / US Attorney, book #3)
by
Julie James

Publication date:
 April 3rd, 2012

Summary:
 He’s playing games.
Though Rylann Pierce tried to fight the sparks she felt for billionaire heir Kyle Rhodes the night they met, their sizzling chemistry was undeniable. But after being stood up on their first date, Rylann never expected to see him again. So when she finds herself face-to-face with Kyle in a courthouse nine years later, she’s stunned. More troubling to the beautiful assistant U.S. attorney is that she’s still wildly attracted to him.
But she’s making the rules.
Just released from prison, Kyle Rhodes isn’t thrilled to be the star witness in a high-profile criminal case—but when Rylann comes knocking at his door, he finds she may be the one lawyer he can’t say no to. Still as gorgeous and sharp-tongued as ever, she lays down the law: she doesn’t mix business with pleasure. But Kyle won’t give up on something he wants—and what he wants is the one woman he’s never forgotten. . .

Dusty Reads #4: Rogue Oracle by Alayna Williams!

Dusty Reads is a weekly meme, hosted by Giselle @ Xpresso Reads, featuring a book that has been sitting unread on our home shelf for some time.

Books don't have to be 'x' years old. If you've had the book for a few months without reading it, it's dusty! ;)

THE MORE YOU KNOW ABOUT THE FUTURE, THE MORE THERE MAY BE TO FEAR.

Tara Sheridan is the best criminal profiler around - and the most unconventional. Trained as a forensic psychologist, Tara also specializes in Tarot card reading. But she doesn't need her divination skills to realize that the new assignment from her friend and sometime lover, Agent Harry Li, is a dangerous proposition in every way.

Former Cold War operatives, all linked to a top-secret operation tracking the disposal of nuclear weapons in Russia, are disappearing. There are no bodies, and no clues to their whereabouts. Harry suspects a conspiracy to sell arms to the highest bidder. The cards - and Tara's increasingly ominous dreams - suggest something darker. Even as Tara sorts through her feelings for Harry and her fractured relationship with the mysterious order known as Delphi's Daughters, a killer is growing more ruthless by the day. And a nightmare that began decades ago in Chernobyl will reach a terrifying endgame that not even Tara could have foreseen. . . .

  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)

"Blood poured down my hand, pooling in the grass as I felt something warm on my chest. I looked down, and blood seeped across the front of my bodice, soaking the front of the gold dress with deep crimson."
"With a flick of her top right hand, two circles of glowing cinder on the scorched earth beside her erupted into brilliant flames. The fiery pillars raged upward, growing and expanding, licking at the sky with orange tongues, forming themselves into creatures."

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? #78

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is being hosted by Sheila at Book Journey.

This is a great weekly event where everyone can keep track of the books finished last week & the books planning to read this week!

So, what I've been reading last week?

I finished Eon by Alison Goodman & I loved it! Great YA fantasy (thank you Naj from Unputdownable Books for it). I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel Eona, I know I'll read it straight away ;)
I also re-read Monster Madness - the 2nd Nightmare Academy book & I loved it once more. Lots of LOLs with it ;)
So, I've had a Julie James week. I didn't plan to, but Patricia from Book Exhibitionism reminded me that I've been planning to re-read Julie James' books for a long time, so I decided to stop postponing re-reading them & of course, once I've started, I couldn't stop it, her books are great, I've read all of them in one or two sittings each ;) Just the Sexiest Man Alive was a re-read & I loved it just as much as the first time I read it!
Practice Makes Perfect was actually the first Julie James' book that I've read. I actually loved it even more now when I re-read it, so also one of my favs & highly recommended!
I can't express how much I love Something About You. I loved it the first time I read it, & I loved it now when I re-read it. Something About You is definitely the best Julie James' book so far & although I love the previous 2 (they both got 5-star rating from me), this one is my top favorite!!!
And the last, but not least - A Lot Like Love. Although I also loved this book, it was quite good & lots of fun, for me it wasn't as great as Julie James' previous 3 books, but still got 4-star rating from me ;) If you haven't tried Julie James' books & you enjoy contemporary funny romances, I highly recommend all her books. I can't wait for the next book About That Night to be published :)
And the last book I read last week was Discount Armageddon by Seanan McGuire. I loved it so much! Review to come, but really entertaining & highly recommended! I'd like to say Thank You to Naj from Unputdownable Books for this one, too!

What I'll be reading this week?

I've started the 3rd Nightmare Academy book Monster War yesterday, so I'll definitely finish this one!
I've started reading The Goddess Test today, but so far I'm not sure if I like it, but I'll give it a shot & continue to read it!
And I've been thinking about re-reading The Hunger Games before I watch the movie, so this one is one of my possible reads this week!

"Waiting On" Wednesday #67: Eona by Alison Goodman!

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Eona
(Eon, book #2)
by
Alison Goodman

Publication date:
March 29th, 2012

Although it's been a while since Eona was published for the first time, I'm actually waiting for the paperback edition from Firebird! I already pre-ordered it & after finishing Eon yesterday, I can't wait to get my hands on it & read it!!! Also, if you haven't read Eon, don't read the summary below because it contains big spoilers!

Summary:

Eon has been revealed as Eona, the first female Dragoneye in hundreds of years. Along with fellow rebels Ryko and Lady Dela, she is on the run from High Lord Sethon's army. The renegades are on a quest for the black folio, stolen by the drug-riddled Dillon; they must also find Kygo, the young Pearl Emperor, who needs Eona's power and the black folio if he is to wrest back his throne from the selfstyled "Emperor" Sethon. Through it all, Eona must come to terms with her new Dragoneye identity and power - and learn to bear the anguish of the ten dragons whose Dragoneyes were murdered. As they focus their power through her, she becomes a dangerous conduit for their plans. . . .

Eona, with its pulse-pounding drama and romance, its unforgettable fight scenes, and its surprises, is the conclusion to an epic only Alison Goodman could create.

Lily Parker is new to St. Sophia’s School for Girls, but she’s already learned that magic can be your best friend... or your worst enemy.

They say absolute power corrupts absolutely. Turns out, even a little magic can turn you to the dark side. That’s why Lily has to learn how to control her newly discovered paranormal abilities, on top of avoiding the snobs who think they run her school, nursing a crush on a cute sophomore with a big, werewolf-y secret, and fighting the good fight with her best friend Scout as they take on Chicago’s nastiest nightlife—including the tainted magic users known as Reapers.

Then Lily’s invited to a private meeting with Sebastian. He’s hot, powerful, and offering to help her harness the magic flowing in her veins in a way no one else can. He’s also a Reaper. Lily can’t hide her suspicions. But she’ll soon find out that the line between good and evil isn’t always clear…
