"The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern

Title: The Night Circus

Author: Erin Morgenstern

My rating: 5 of 5

Summary:

The circus arrives without warning.
No announcements precede it...
It is simple there, when yesterday it was not.

In 1886, a mysterious travelling circus becomes an international sensation. Open only at night, constructed entirely of black and white, Le Cirque des Rêves delights all who wander its circular paths and warm themselves at its bonfire.

Although there are acrobats, fortune-tellers and contortionists, the Circus of Dreams is no conventional spectacle. Some tents contain clouds, some ice. The circus seems almost to cast a spell over its aficionados, who call themselves the rêveurs - the dreamers. At the heart of the story is the tangled relationship between two young magicians, Celia, the enchanter's daughter, and Marco, the sorcerer's apprentice. At the behest of their shadowy masters, they find themselves locked in a deadly contest, forced to test the very limits of the imagination, and of their love...

A fabulous, fin-de-siècle feats for the senses and a life-affirming love story, The Night Circus is a captivating novel that will make the real world seem fantastical and a fantasy world real.

My Thoughts on the Book:

What to say about The Night Circus that haven't been said before?
Erin Morgenstern has created one of the most magical places ever. With her wonderful, descriptive & amazing writing style & her amazing imagination I definitely felt like she had cast a spell on me & she did enrapture me, and I didn't want the story to end, so I'll never leave Le Cirque des Rêves. The only thing I've ever wished from all the fantasy books ever to exist on the real world is The Circus of Dreams. Just so, so amazing & magical & creative & wonderful & beautiful, and definitely will make you feel like you're in a dream, but a dream you'll never want to wake up from...

From the beginning I fell in love with the story. It does jump around between all the different characters (and there are many) & the different time periods back & forth, but after getting to know most of the "players" and who's who, you get used to it, and I actually loved it. Also, the pacing isn't fast, I guess it's actually quite slow, but perfect for the story & I loved it. I loved all the characters, even those that at first didn't, they've all gotten themselves a special place in my heart. Both Celia & Marco were amazing at what they did & they complemented each others work, and they were just so perfect for each other, and their romance was sweet, and although I didn't know how exactly the story would end, I was happy with the ending. Also, I absolutely loved Poppet, Bailey & Widget as characters, too :) I actually guessed early on about Bailey's role in the end, and I was happy that I was right.

I can't go into more details about the story, but The Night Circus is one of the most wonderful, amazing & magical books I've ever read, and definitely joins my list of my favourite books, and a book I'll read again & again, so I highly recommend it!!!

Also, some thoughts on my edition - the UK hardcover from Harvill Secker - the most gorgeous book I own and I've ever seen. I fell in love with it so much. And, I'd like to thank Jenny @ Chocolate Chunky Munkey for it. I already had The Night Circus on my wishlist, and I did prefer the UK cover, I already thought it was beautiful (although I couldn't imagine how gorgeous is actually IRL), so when I was lucky enough to win a copy of The Night Circus at Jenny's blog, and I asked her if she can send me a UK edition (she's actually from the UK, and I didn't ask for the HB edition) and she was so wonderful to send me the UK HB edition, I was over the moon when I received it!!!
So, one big THANK YOU, Jenny!!!
